Our accommodation facilities
At YHA, we understand that our customers are different. That’s why all our accommodation and facilities are different and no two YHA’s are ever the same.
We like to give you the option of where you’d like to stay, which is why we have almost 200 properties across England and Wales in varied locations, and we also like to give you the option of what you sleep in!
Stay in a variety of buildings including mansions, lodges, purpose-built or even a castle in private or shared rooms with double, single and bunk beds. Most of our hostels have a self-catering kitchen where you can prepare and cook your own meals creating that home-from-home feeling. Alternatively, let us do the work for you and cook you a meal using the best ingredients available, then relax and unwind with a local ale or fine wine chosen from the hostel selection. After all, you are on a break! At selected hostels, kids under 10 eat for free*!
Fancy something with more of an edge? We have a selection of activity centres that are great for getting your adrenalin pumping located in some of the best parts of England and Wales. Try your hand at climbing and then make a splash whilst kayaking at these AALA licensed venues with loads more activities on offer. We welcome groups and, individuals and families at selected locations. For more information, select your chosen centre:

An ideal way to rough it, without actually having to rough it! Camping Barns are sometimes known as ‘stone tents’ and offer the chance to get out into the countryside without having to worry about the weather or pitching the tent. Often located on working farms, Camping Barns vary in facilities ranging from a basic roof over your head to the more luxurious, which include a shower and cooking facilities. Sleeping areas tend to be communal so unless you book sole-use, expect to be sleeping close to someone you may not know (yet)! Camping Barns are ideal for individuals, families and groups. They are particularly popular with Duke of Edinburgh groups. As the facilities in Camping Barns differ, you’ll be told what you need to bring when you book, but always remember a good sleeping bag and mat, warm clothes, torch and good walking boots or wellies.
We have camping barns in the following regions:
Glamorous camping, also known as ‘Glamping’! That’s something you’ll be getting up to when you stay in one of YHA’s first ever camping pods, currently only available at YHA Grinton and YHA Hawkshead. Experience a night under the stars with the convenience of these environmentally friendly and locally sourced pods where young children will love the cave-like experience and embrace their natural surroundings. Complete with lighting, you’ll just need to bring the usual stuff you take camping but the added bonus is you can use all the amenities of the hostel like showers and the self-catering kitchen. You can even enjoy the freshly prepared meals available. A brilliant introduction to camping.
Visit the hostel pages for more information and booking.
If you just can’t bear the thought of leaving the tent at home and having a night without the stars, you can camp in the grounds of some of our Youth Hostels. Once you’ve pitched your tent, you’re welcome to use the hostels amenities or indulge yourself in one of our tasty meals or sampling some of our local ales and fine wines.
What to expect
No chores, no lights out, just a warm welcome guaranteed
Whenever you stay with us, the fantastic YHA welcome comes as standard. We’ll never be an upmarket hotel chain, and we wouldn’t want to be. We’re proud of having a great network of hostels in spectacular locations.
We recognise that our history is an important part of what makes YHA special, but we’re constantly changing to meet our customers’ needs.
You don’t have to share - many of our hostels have private rooms that you can book all to yourself or to share with family or friends. You don’t have to do chores - we have staff to make sure that everything is clean, and you don’t have to bring your own bed linen – duvets and pillows are provided.
