New bus service starts its journey at the doors of YHA York

The innovative MoorsPlus starts the day at the Water Lane bus stop, right opposite YHA York. Designed to open up more of the North York Moors to rail users, it runs from May to the end of September on Mondays and Saturdays. Look out for the M8 bus with a green and yellow “M” triangle in the front window. MoorsPlus serves York, Malton, Pickering and Danby railway stations, and visits the popular destinations of Kirkbymoorside, Hutton Le Hole, Blakey Ridge, Castleton and the Moors Centre at Danby. An £8 Moors Rover ticket will give all day travel and can also be used on the Scarborough and District 128 service between Thornton Le Dale and Helmsley. ENCTS bus passes are accepted.

An easy way to get between York and Helmsley and Moors, the service can also be used to connect with the Esk Valley Railway at Danby, with its beautiful journey to Whitby or Middlesbrough, or with the splendid steam trains of the North York Moors Railway at Pickering.

MoorsPlus is the result of a successful joint bid between the Moorsbus Community Interest Company and the Esk Valley Railway Development Company to TransPennine Express’s Growth Fund.

MoorsPlus gives passengers the chance to create a linear walk (or buswalk, as Moorsbus users call them!); a favourite is going to be Danby to Hutton le Hole or Kirkbymoorside, but using the Esk Valley Railway as well the path along the incredible former Rosedale Mineral Railway, currently part of the This Exploited Land of Iron project, becomes far more accessible than it is by car.

Once you’ve reached the North York Moors, why not think about staying over and using the Moorsbus Sunday and Bank Holiday network? It’s then possible to visit Sutton Bank, Bilsdale, Rosedale or Dalby Forest for some wonderful walking. You can also use your Sunday all-day Moors Rover ticket on the Arriva X93 service to reach YHA Whitby and YHA Boggle Hole.

Timetables for the M8 MoorsPlus service are to be found online at www.moorsbus.org, or at YHA York and YHA Helmsley, York Railway Station and at York Tourist Information Centre.
