YHA Llywn y Celyn is now known as YHA Brecon Beacons

It could be the best name change since Norma Jean took a shine to Marylin Monroe - YHA Llwyn y Celyn has changed its name to YHA Brecon Beacons! After careful consideration we decided to rename our hostel so that we really make the most of its location in the idyllic Brecon Beacons National Park.

Relax - you can be sure that YHA Brecon Beacons is still as special as it always has been. This cosy 19th Century farmhouse has access to some of the best walking in Wales and the surrounding National Park is rich in lush green scenery, picturesque fern-filled valleys and dramatic mountains. You really can't beat the hostel location either; overlooking the river Tarell, surrounded by 15 acres of ancient woodland, and with breathtaking views towards mountain Pen y Fan (the highest peak in South Wales).

Inside the beautiful old Welsh farmhouse you'll find a welcoming lounge with a roaring fire and plenty of comfy armchairs. It's perfect for winding down in the evening over a glass of wine and a chat after your day up a mountain! The hostel offers everything you need to enjoy your break including great self-catering facilities, warm showers and tasty home-cooked meals. You can book a dorm bed from just £15, relax in a homely double room en-suite, or enjoy sole use of the hostel in a group or school trip. And don't get us started on The View from the picnic benches outside...

Whether you want to peacefully enjoy your tranquil retreat, or get on your bike to explore acres of stunning countryside, here are three great things to do up at YHA Brecon Beacons:

  • Hike along the circular trail up to Pen-y-Fan, hire a bike in town, or join the Walking Weekend.
  •
  • The National Park is a International Dark Sky Reserve, so bring binoculars and get stargazing.
  •
  • Its manager loves escaping up to the Nature Reserve of Cerrig y Gleisiad. A sharp climb rewards you with a view of erratic rocks left by the ice - you may even spot buzzards and ravens!
