YHA CEO Caroline White Joins the OIA Board

Caroline White, CEO of YHA (England and Wales), has become the OIA’s newest Board Member. She replaces Brian Smith (ex-Chief Executive of HF Holidays), who recently retired after being a member of the OIA Board since 2007.

Commenting on her new role, Caroline said: “I’m honoured to have been invited to join the OIA Board at such an exciting time, and very much looking forward to using my background to further enhance the success of the association. I am enormously proud that YHA's relevance to the outdoor industry continues to grow and that we can focus on our shared goals together going forward.”

In 2013, Caroline was nominated to the Women’s First top 100 most influential women in tourism and hospitality. She joined YHA in 2008 because she passionately believes in the huge life-changing opportunities YHA gives young people through travel, education and engagement with others from so many different backgrounds. This combines her skills for leading transformational change, property development, and the combination of commercial and voluntary sector expertise needed in a self-financing trading charity. Before joining YHA, she had a successful early career in the housing sector and was both Chief executive of Soho Housing association and English Churches Housing group. She led a number of voluntary organisations through major change, including the Alzheimers’ Society, and has previously held a number of non-exec roles including a Trustee of Centrepoint and Chair of her local Primary Care Trust.

OIA Chief Executive Andrew Denton comments: “We are privileged that Caroline has agreed to join the OIA Board. Thanks to her vital role at the YHA, she shares our goals and understands the importance of introducing future generations of young people to the outdoors. As we continue to build our influence as an association and deliver dynamic and high impact outdoor projects such as Britain on Foot, we need a board that represents the entire sector. We now have a very balanced, high profile and representative board from across the trade, which makes the OIA even more capable of truly representing, and effectively promoting, our industry.”
