Visit Minehead...online

Planning a stay at YHA Minehead? A new website for Minehead – the Gateway to Exmoor – is being launched to ensure the resort is ready to welcome visitors at the start of the holiday season.

The site - www.visitminehead.org – comes under the umbrella of the new Visit Exmoor website that is already proving hugely popular thanks to its attractive and easy to navigate design. The Minehead site ensures that the resort keeps its own special identity while sharing an extensive database with Visit Exmoor, representing a financial saving.

Minehead Information Centre Manager Lena Bond said: “Thanks to support from West Somerset Council we have a new website with a modern feel and one that is compatible with smartphones and iPads, enabling us to reach a wider audience in promoting Minehead as a holiday destination.” Cllr Karen Mills, lead member for tourism, said: “I am delighted we can now do even more to promote Minehead and all it has to offer. The funding COOL received from EU Interreg has proved invaluable, allowing us to do so much more to market our area and so help the local economy. I would really encourage local businesses – big and small – to have a presence on the website. As it is modern and map-based, it’s an ideal way for a business to market and promote what they offer.”

It also offers the new features of Visit Exmoor and packs a more powerful punch when it comes to marketing. In future the Minehead site will be able to tap into any new developments at a reasonable cost thanks to being involved in the bigger partnership.

The new Minehead site has been made possible thanks to COOL funding, the initiative to promote rural tourism that saw £186,000 pumped in to developing and promoting rural tourism across the area by four Somerset and Exmoor based partners. West Somerset Council contributed £13,000 of cash to the project, which levered in an additional £34,000 of match funding from Europe for the district.
