Emergency Flood Appeal Opens

During the past few weeks, several YHA properties have suffered damage and disruption as a result of the widespread flooding and terrible storms that have swept across England and Wales and affected many regions.

There has been significant damage in the Lake District resulting in water damage to cellars, flooring and furnishings at YHA Ambleside. There has also been severe damage to YHA Keswick which has removed access to the hostel and flooded the ground floor.

YHA Ambleside remains open, however YHA Keswick has had to be closed for repair works to begin. We are working on plans to reopen the hostel, but the use of it for guests will be disrupted until the end of March at the least.

In Wales, YHA Snowdon Pen-y-Pass also fell foul of the bad weather with abnormally heavy rain running off the Snowdonia mountains and into the recently refurbished property.

Following the initial clean up and assessment, we estimate the damage to be in excess of £1 million.

After countless phone calls with offers of help from our guests, members and friends, we are asking for donations to get these much-loved hostels back to looking their very best. Please donate what you can. We are so grateful for your contribution.
