Hostel of the Week Archive: Winter YHA Brighton

Want a winter break that sparkles? Brighton comes to life in the cold season and our glam hostel is no exception. Make YHA Brighton your cosy base for winter fun - we'll be waiting with a cup of hot chocolate and all the glitter, colour and personality you'd expect from our seaside hostel. Visit our quirkiest location to see vibrant arts festivals, unique seasonal events, some of the best Christmas shopping in the UK, and famous landmarks lit up in lights.

Brighton Life

A hub of all things weird and wonderful, Brighton gets extra extravagant in winter. Its traditional seaside charm becomes even more irresistible draped in twinkly lights and there's lots to keep you entertained. Giggle yourself warm at the fabulous Brighton Comedy Festival - this cheery city has a legendary cultural scene - or catch the best of international films during November's Cinecity. Venture to Nevill Recreation Ground to see a spectacular firework display and fire dance show, guaranteed to brighten up a cold winter's night. Annual craft fair MADE BRIGHTON celebrates its 10th anniversary in November; taking over the Corn Exchange with beautiful handcrafted goodies. Or explore local studios and buy a masterpiece during Artists Open Houses. For a luxurious experience, Stanmer House's Festive Forest features fairy-lit country cabins, warm mugs of Baileys and delicious party food. Don't miss the breathtaking Burning the Clocks; a community procession of paper lanterns ending with a bonfire on Brighton beach. This crisp time of year is the perfect season to visit and Brighton's crown jewel, the iconic Royal Pavilion, transforms into "the most beautiful ice rink in the South East"!

The Hostel in Winter

The glowing chandeliers, sumptuous fabrics and lively 24 hour bar of YHA Brighton are so inviting when it's cold outside. Swap rain drizzle for lemon drizzle and pop in for some coffee and cake (you MUST have heard of our awesome Cakeaway offer by now) - and you'll soon forget our British weather. Less than a year old, our chic new hostel is still raking in excellent reviews and has the perfect mix of Regency character and handy modern facilities. Stay cosy in our stylish bar and fuel up before exploring Brighton's eclectic nightlife with some tasty nachos or a make-your-own 12" pizza. Remember to ask our savvy staff about their fave haunts - buckle up for a night in arty quarter North Laine's pubs - or about our favourite local walks. We're on the edge of the South Downs National Park, so you can still let off steam with a winter hike. Chilly weather and dark nights are perfect excuse to treat yourself to some luxury, so how about a stay in one of our special premium rooms, complete with double beds, crisp towels and stunning sea views?

Family Fun

Brighton isn't just about young hip creatives - there's an exciting range of fun seasonal events the whole family will love. Get ready to cheer, laugh and sing along at this year's GIANT winter panto of Jack & The Beanstalk. Venture into Sussex to browse snuggly knitwear from Peru while animal lovers make new friends at The Llama park, meeting woolly llamas, alpacas, reindeer and more. Brighton Pier transforms into over 1000ft of scares for Fear on the Pier this October, with unlimited fairground rides and live-action horror guaranteed to chill. There'll be heart-warming tales at the Brighton Dome with Snuggle-up Storytelling and Diwali Family Fun at Brighton Museum has hands-on activities to celebrate the Festival of Lights. Never been on 'The Brighton Story'? Wrap up warm for a guided walk around the city's pastel-coloured buildings, learning about its fascinating history as you go. You can't beat a visit to the nearby Toy and Model Museum to spark imaginations - somebody might ask for a model railway for Christmas! If teens are longing for their first pair of Dr Martens, set them loose at indie shopper's paradise The Lanes and watch them return grinning with a winter wardrobe to turn heads.

Great for Christmas

Can't find the perfect festive gift? We guarantee you'll see something special at Brighton's wonderful Christmas fairs. The enchanting German Christmas Market sells handcrafted gifts from authentic wooden huts and the Open Market's 'Made it at the Market' workshops help you create something they'll treasure. The ever-flamboyant Royal Pavilion doesn't disappoint - celebrate Christmas with your family in its music room with a charity carol concert, or treat kids to a magical meeting with Santa! If you're staying to pull a cracker with us over the holidays, let us spoil you with a delicious Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. We really deck the halls at YHA Brighton and you'll feel right at home surrounded by baubles, a fabulously decorated tree and garlands galore. So what are you waiting for? Book your stay and experience Brighton's winter sparkle for yourself.
