History

The building was originally a family home before it became a finishing school for 20-25 young ladies - where there were more staff and servants than young ladies! The school closed for a time and was then re-opened by the previous French teacher before it became a hotel. YHA has operated the building as a youth hostel for more than 55 years.

Meet the team

Manager recommends: If you're on a quick weekend break, or just in London for a day do the Original Bus Tour and see the big sights. You can also walk to the Natural History Museum, only 20 minutes from the hostel - it’s a landmark!

Get a direct ride from Earl’s Court’s station to Kew, the Royal Botanical gardens, with its tropical glasshouses, kilometres square of various plants from all around the world and holiday seasons special events. Tickets can be booked online. Or why not take in a spectacular view of the city from Skygardens? This fantastic skyline is at the heart of the London business district. Entrance is free and can be booked online up to four weeks in advance.

About 20 minutes from the hostel, the Saatchi gallery is London biggest Contemporary Art Hub. Entrance is free to regular exhibitions. You can as well unfold the Big History of London at the 'Museum of London' with its fun, interactive expositions, full of touch screens, street reproductions, quiz and special events organized to entertain the small ones while educating their curious minds!

Go to the Tower of London - though a bit more expensive, you can easily spend the whole day there. In between uncovering whole chunk of England history, letting yourself be floored while admiring the jewels the crown and their regular special events and activity, you won’t have time to get bored. Special recommendation for the Beefeater Tour, it is free, it runs several times a day and leads you into area that are otherwise unavailable to public.

Finally, Richmond Park and its natural wonders. Nested on the outskirts of London, it’s the perfect place to escape from the hussle and bustle. Observe the deers and does in their natural environment and get lost in this maelstrom of reds and golden leaves as autumn unfolds.
