Discover Snowdonia festival promising family fun this May

A new outdoor activity festival will take place in North Wales this summer, as local groups strive to make the area Britain's premier destination for outdoor pursuits.

The May 27th festival will include a zip line and rope-swinging activities at Cae Llan, while introductory sessions will be on offer for those wanting to try their hand at climbing and abseiling. It does not end there though, with the chance to try guided mine exploration, kayaking, gorge walking and lots of other activities suitable for families.

Discover Snowdonia will be the first major event from the North Wales Outdoor Activity Partnership, a collection of local activity firms working together towards common goals. Festival organiser Rob Murray told the North Wales Weekly News: "Discover Snowdonia will be the first proper outdoor festival the area has seen and will be a real opportunity to showcase the area, which has some of the best and most diverse outdoor activity opportunities in the world, with some of the most experienced instructors.

"It is also the only area in the UK where you can experience spectacular coastline and mountains to exciting mountain-bike trails and mine adventures or white-water rivers and peaceful lakes all in the same day!"

If you want the chance to sample the many different activities going on at Discover Snowdonia, take a look at our great-value local hostels for somewhere to base your stay.

In the meantime, there are a range of family activities going on in the North York Moors this Easter. The Northern Echo reports that as well as bluebell walks at Great Ayton and Easter egg trails at The Moors National Park Centre at Danby, there will be the chance to try kayaking and learn how to make a campfire on a bushcraft course. Geocaching and a Compass Explorers’ Challenge at East Barnby Outdoor Centre are also highlights of early April in the area.
