4 fun places to take a break on your way to Cornwall

4 fun places to take a break on your way to Cornwall

Long car or coach journeys can take a huge toll on you and the best way to prevent this from happening is to make some scheduled stops along the way. Service stations might prove handy when you fancy picking up a quick cup of coffee or a bite to eat but they’re certainly not the most cheerful of places. So, if you’re planning a trip to Cornwall and are looking for some fun or relaxing places to stop off at along the way, here are some of our favourites.

Cholwell Riding Stables

If you're travelling via the A30, then break up your journey by visiting Cholwell Riding Stables which are located in Tavistock, Devon. The family-run business caters to riders of all abilities and allows you to ride straight out on to Dartmoor – an experience you're sure to remember.

Exploring the wide open spaces of Devon will help to relax your mind in preparation for the rest of your journey and Cholwell's beautiful horses, friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere will ensure that you're in the holiday spirit long before you even arrive in Cornwall.

Wyevale Garden Centres

There are 68 Wyevale Garden Centres located near motorways and major driving routes across the country. They offer a refreshing alternative to service stations, and many of them have stunning outdoor spaces where you can enjoy a healthy dose of fresh air.

Most Wyevale Garden Centres also come with their own restaurants or coffee shops which serve homemade meals that both adults and kids will love. Many of the centres also have their own soft-play areas, and are dog-friendly, so they’re great places for entire families to stop and take a break.

Additionally, they make fantastic rest stops for coach journeys as, not only are there the likes of shopping facilities and car-free outdoor spaces for everyone to explore, but their restaurants offer free meals to coach drivers in an effort to make their jobs slightly easier.

If you’re thinking about stopping at a Wyevale Garden Centre during your journey, then download one of their Point of Interest files for your satnav. They'll let you know which Wyevale locations are nearby and will lead you right to them.

Honiton

This market town is a wonderful place to stop off at and stretch your legs during your journey. Its famous markets take place along the town's high street every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Plus, there's a multitude of restaurants, tearooms, cafes and bistros where you'll be able to grab a quick bite to eat before you carry on to Cornwall.

Honiton also regularly plays host to a range of events, such as comedy and theatre shows. The Honiton Tourist Information Centre has a run-down of everything that's going on in the town over the next few months. So, if you're thinking about making a stop here, make the most of it and immerse yourself in the culture of this lovely market town.

Haldon Forest Park

Just 15 minutes from Exeter is Haldon Forest Park which offers 3,500 acres of beautiful woodland that you’re sure to adore. There’s a range of fantastic walking, cycling and horse riding trails, which allow you to explore the park however you wish. Plus, offering its own Go Ape forest adventures, Segway trail tours and scheduled nature walks, the park provides countless opportunities for you to make some unforgettable memories with your friends or family. To access Haldon Forest Park, all you have to do is pay for a parking ticket. Then, the entire forest is yours to explore until it’s time to set off on your way again.

We want you to have the best possible journey to Cornwall, and if you visit one (or several) of these wonderful places along the way we guarantee that you will.
