This green and pleasant land hides a rumbling volcanic past. In fact, most of Snowdonia and the Borrowdale Hills in the Lake District were once a hotbed of volcanic activity.

It’s hard to believe now, but around 450 million years ago, an eruption by the Snowdonia super volcano was at least three times the force of Krakatoa and dramatically altered the world’s climate.

YHA announces investment in popular Edale Youth Hostel

YHA (England and Wales) has announced YHA Edale in Derbyshire’s Hope Valley, as the recipient of round of investment in 2014.

The 157-bed Youth Hostel, which is hugely popular with schools and groups looking for adrenaline-fueled adventure breaks in the surrounding Peak District, is to undergo a £250,000 makeover to create a world class outdoor activity centre
