Hawes - Local Info
Overlooking Wensleydale, with beautiful views of the surrounding fells, this property is on the Pennine Way and ideal for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and Herriott Country; Hawes is a busy market town, famous historically for making rope and cheese, with lots going on. The town has many pubs, two outdoor gear shops, two general stores, a chemists, a few gift shops and a couple of antique shops. Tuesday is Market day, and the main street is usually heaving.
The creamery that makes Wensleydale cheese is here and it is possible to get a guided tour, as well as try samples of most of the cheeses produced. The dale itself is known for its hills, sheep and waterfalls - the best known being Aysgarth Falls (10m) and Hardraw Force (1.5m).
