YHA Llwyn-y-Celyn Access Statement

Approach YHA Llwyn y Celyn on A470 (Cardiff to Brecon road), 1½ miles north of The Storey Arms centre, 2 miles south of Libanus village.  Brecon is 7 miles north, Merthyr Tydfil 11 miles to the south.  Cardiff is 35 miles south. The hostel is well signed from the main road.  When approaching from the south, turn right and proceed down the tarmac surfaced drive to the hostel drop off point.  Cars should then be parked in the hostel car park on the left hand side of the drive approx 50 meters up the drive.

Steep incline drive down to hostel drop off point.  Level drop off area, unsurfaced, which leads to a level but unsurfaced access road to front of building.  There are 3 regular depth steps up to entrance of hostel.  Arrangements can be made to assist mobility impaired guests access the hostel, as there are no handrails to the main entrance.

Main entrance into hostel has a 1 m wide doorway, which leads to a well lit stone flag floored reception area.

An induction loop is available at reception.

The ground floor lounge, toilets and 2 dorm rooms are accessible to all, with stone flag flooring to the lounge, but rest of facilities accessed via a slightly uneven concrete floored corridor.  The self-catering kitchen and dining room is accessed via 2 steps.  There is one 8 bedded room and one 6 bedded room on the ground floor.  The other bedrooms are all on the first floor accessed by a single flight open staircase, via the quarry tiled dining room, with handrail to the right.  Some ensuite rooms are available on the first floor.  2 rooms upstairs have single / double beds providing easier access.

A 5-bed ensuite mobility access room is provided in the adjacent barn complex.  This room has its own facilities and is at ground level.  Currently access to the room is across 1 low door jam from flags from the uneven surface lading to the main hostel.  Toilet and shower facilities are provided, suitable for mobility impaired guests.

Good colour contrast to floor, walls and doorways.

No smoking or pets (service dogs welcome)

Mobile phone coverage is poor, however the best reception is found on Orange.
