Ironbridge marks 25 years as World Heritage Site

A series of exciting events, festivals and activities are planned to celebrate the 25th anniversary since Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge was designated as one of the UK’s first World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

The high point of the celebrations will be the World Heritage Festival that takes place on 24th September 2011. A huge street market will fill the gorge and throughout the day there will be live entertainment including brass bands, choirs, street entertainers and historic characters in costume.

Party into the evening and you will be able to see the Iron Bridge, which will be vibrantly illuminated, whilst a firework display lights the night sky. For details call 01952 433 424 or visit www.ironbridge.org.uk

Victorian Towns & Rocket Science!

Birthplace of the industrial revolution, Ironbridge Gorge is now the ideal place to get away from it all.  Experience the sights, sounds (and smells!) of the Eighteenth Century at Blists Hill Victorian Town, or try experimenting with the latest machines and technologies at Enginuity -  Ironbridge's museums have something to keep everyone entertained!

For more information on the museums, and up to date info on special offers and one-off events (ghostly tales by gas light anyone?) visit the museum's website at www.ironbridge.org.uk/ .

Extreme Sports & Extreme Relaxation!

Outside of the museums there's still plenty to see and do: walking, mountain biking (and for the really brave even mountain boarding!) in the Shropshire hills, fishing in the Severn (day licences available from pub just 2 minutes walk from the hostel), cinemas and ice skating in Telford, or simply relaxing with a coffee in one of Ironbridge's many cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Apple Festivals, Regattas and Toy Duck Races!

Just some of the events in Ironbridge's calendar.  For more info on what's going on & ideas of things to do in and around Ironbridge please give us a call at the hostel or check out these web sites - there's always something new happening!
