The Wells Festival of Literature runs this year from October 17th to 24th.
As in previous years, hundreds of budding poets and authors will throng to the small cathedral city in a bid to gain recognition for their work and learn more about the written word.
The flagship events of the festival are the Poetry and Short Story competitions - judged by poet laureate Andrew Motion and author Clare Morrall - though several special events will also be held.
These include a series of lectures and presentations given by leading novelists, poets and journalists, which will be held in the Bishop's Palace and other venues.
Tickets for individual events can be purchased by calling the Wells Tourist Information Centre on 01749 672552.
YHA Cheddar is conveniently located a 20-minute drive from the neighbouring city of Wells, making it an ideal place to stay when attending this festival.
