Barbarians vs Australia Rugby Union

The Barbarians will take on Australia's Wallabies in a historic show-down at Wembley Stadium on December 3rd.

Tensions are certain to be running high as both teams seek to defend their reputations on the 60th anniversary of their first meeting at Cardiff Arms Park in January 1948.

In that infamous showdown, the hosts beat the Wallabies 9-6 in front of a 45,000-strong crowd, giving rise to the long-standing rivalry between the two stalwarts of the game.

The Australian national rugby union team has become one of the most successful sides in the sport's history since then, competing in all six of the Rugby World Cups that have been staged to date.

And yet in spite of their illustrious background, archrivals England still managed to send them crashing out of the last World Cup at the quarter-final stage, beating them 12-10.
