Former Chief Executive of YHA Caroline White receives honorary degree

Caroline White, the former Chief Executive of the Youth Hostels Association (YHA), has received an Honorary Doctorate from Leeds Beckett University.

She has been awarded the Honorary Doctorate for her dedication and commitment to helping improve young people’s lives through sport and recreation.

New bus service starts its journey at the doors of YHA York

The innovative MoorsPlus starts the day at the Water Lane bus stop, right opposite YHA York. Designed to open up more of the North York Moors to rail users, it runs from May to the end of September on Mondays and Saturdays. Look out for the M8 bus with a green and yellow “M” triangle in the front window. MoorsPlus serves York, Malton, Pickering and Danby railway stations, and visits the popular destinations of Kirkbymoorside, Hutton Le Hole, Blakey Ridge, Castleton and the Moors Centre at Danby.

British adventurer Sarah Outen MBE appointed as YHA Ambassador

In celebration of Women’s Sport Week 2017 (19 – 25 June), YHA (England and Wales) has announced the appointment of British athlete and adventurer, Sarah Outen MBE as an ambassador of the youth hostelling charity.

Sarah was the first woman and the youngest person to row solo across the Indian Ocean and also the Pacific Ocean from Japan to Alaska. She also completed a round the world journey under her own power, by rowing, cycling and kayaking, in a journey called ‘London to London via the World, in November 2015.

A new partnership is set to inspire triathlon participation through the support of youth hostelling charity, YHA (England and Wales).

On the back of an historic and hugely successful year for Britain’s athletes at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, British Triathlon has teamed up with YHA to support the delivery of its world class success as well as provide opportunities for more people to get involved in the sport.

YHA (England and Wales) has appointed a new Chief Executive to lead the youth hostelling charity.

James Blake (42) joins from St Albans City and District Council where he has held the role of Chief Executive since 2012. He brings a wealth of experience to the position at YHA, including overseeing a complex organisation balancing commercial imperative and public benefit.

YHA welcomes dogs at Exclusive Hire properties

In a brand new move for 2017, YHA has announced that dogs are welcome to stay with their owners at 13 of its Exclusive Hire properties.

The properties are available to hire all year round, can accommodate 18–77 guests and cost from as little as £99 a night. Up to four dogs are welcome to stay at the properties for an additional cost of £30 per dog for the duration of the stay.

GO Outdoors opens first superstore in Nottingham in time for Christmas

Britain’s best-loved outdoor retailer is extremely excited to announce the opening of its first superstore in Nottingham on Saturday 5th November.

The store will be the 58th store GO Outdoors have opened in the UK. Nottingham residents will have 35,000sq.ft, the equivalent to five tennis courts, spread over two floors, to browse the wide range of products sold at GO Outdoors. A cycling department will be located on the first floor and will include a huge range of bikes, including GO Outdoors own award winning Calibre bike range.

YHA‘s investment in our Youth Hostels, throughout England and Wales, will help the organisation fulfil our vision of enhancing the lives of all young people.

During the last three years, sustained growth in occupancy, yield and income has enabled YHA to invest £30 million in our Youth Hostels to ensure we have accommodation in the right places, and our properties are maintained to appropriate standards which meet our guests’ expectations.
