Donations to YHA Tanners Hatch

We are currently fundraising to give YHA Tanners Hatch a sympathetic renovation which will keep all the much-loved charm of the Grade II listed building but improve facilities to guests. This letter came in along with a donation for the project.

10th October 2016

Dear YHA

I am enclosing a cheque for £50 towards your Tanner's Hatch appeal on behalf of my Dad and myself.

BMC to launch Mend Our Mountains campaign

BMC to launch Mend Our Mountains campaign

Sir Chris Bonington, Doug Scott CBE and Julia Bradbury are backing a major new British Mountaineering Council (BMC) campaign to raise money for environmental projects on some of Britain’s most iconic peaks: Mend Our Mountains.

Working with eight national park authorities, BMC aim to raise more than £100,000 for path repair projects on some of Britain’s most iconic peaks, including the respective highest mountains of England and Wales, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

A climb for young minds

Our Activity Manager for YHA Eden Project, Anna Lazzarino, is embarking on 7 months of training to get set for a fundraising challenge in the summer of 2016. She is aiming to climb 4810m to summit Mont Blanc in aid of Breaks for Kids and mental health charity Mind.

Want to make a real difference to children's lives? Go the distance with Team YHA by joining one of our events to raise money for Breaks for Kids. You can run, pedal or bake (anything goes!) your way to glory with one of our exciting fundraising challenges.

All you need is enthusiasm and the generous support of your sponsors. Why not ask your employer to match fund what you raise? Do something really special for you, whilst also supporting less advantaged children.

Please support the YHA Tintagel Appeal

YHA Tintagel may have some of the most stunning views in our network, but this well-loved hidden gem needs your help. We’re planning to safeguard this small, beautifully-located hostel for future generations with a sympathetic renovation in 2016.

Vote for us to win £7,000 for a landmark environmental project

Vote for us to win £7,000 for a landmark environmental project

To all who voted for YHA Snowdon Pen-y-Pass in 2013 and YHA Boggle Hole in 2014, we can’t thank you enough! Because of you YHA won the top prize of £25,000 from the Hostelling International Sustainability Fund.

This year we’re going for gold for a third time to secure funding for YHA Hadrian’s Wall at The Sill and we need all the votes we can get!

What makes Breaks for Kids so special?

What makes Breaks for Kids so special?

YHA supports adventure breaks for children. It relies on the backing of its members. A big thank you — you’ve helped more than half a million youngsters.

Running the world with Ben Spurway

If you’ve stayed at YHA Keswick or YHA Eskdale recently and crossed paths with a particularly steely-eyed group of outdoor-lovers, it could well be that you came face to face with Ben Spurway and his friends. The 43-year-old military reservist is one of a group of four who have been using our Lake District properties as training bases, in preparation for a decidedly extreme adventure race next year.

Fundraising in Richie's Memory

Fundraising in Richie's Memory

Guest post by Huw Andrews

In July 2015, I cycled 250 miles in five days from London to west Wales, fundraising to mark the passing of an inspirational friend, Richie Clapham. We lost Richie to cancer in 2011, at just 31. Richie was a mischievous and big hearted friend to many as well as a much-loved son, husband and father. 15 years ago he emigrated to New Zealand with his family and wife-to-be Rachel. In 2005 I lived and worked with them before following the Lions rugby tour of New Zealand with another friend Paul Reaney.
