Walk with Mountain Rescue (18+)

Explore the mountain tops of the Langdale Valley , most notably the iconic and distinctive Langdale Pikes with experienced Ambleside & Langdale Mountain Rescue Team Leader Nick Owen. Nick's knowledge of the region through his years as a member of one of the Lake Districts busiest Mountain Rescue Teams will give the group a different and insightful look of the Lakeland fells and the work of the Mountain Rescue Teams. On Saturday evening after dinner we head off to the Lakes Districts prestigious Beer Festival held at Hawkshead Brewery.

Navigation-Silver Award
Edale
The Silver level of the National Navigation Award Scheme covers more difficult and complex navigational problems including a full range of compass skills. It is particularly suitable for those who have completed the Bronze level or who are confident in their basic navigation skills. It will allow participants to navigate efficiently through even relatively featureless terrain and as such is particularly appropriate to those venturing into the hills and moors. Walks of up to 15kms with significant height gain and frequent rough terrain should be expected.
This activity is for 16+ for just £143.

Hike and Bike Weekend
Hawkshead
A great summer Lake District weekend getaway with the perfect combination of a day’s mountain biking and a day in the Lakeland fells. Based at YHA Hawkshead a listed Regency mansion in extensive grounds overlooking tranquil Esthwaite Water in the Southern Lakes, the location couldn’t be better for 2 days of adventure activities led by Country Adventures experienced and sociable instructors. Saturdays mountain biking venue running parallel to Lake Windermere offers tree-covered slopes bisected by bridleways and tracks that are not too difficult, but do provide great sport with climbs, short fast descents, hidden tarns, and the occasional muddy pool – also an excellent venue for those new to mountain biking. Saturday will be topped with an evening BBQ in the YHA grounds. Sundays group guided walk, graded moderate, will cap an enjoyable weekend away.

Navigation Bronze Award

Walking the South West Coast Path
Boswinger
Base yourself at YHA Boswinger and experience the South West Coast Path, without the need for a car. To the west, there is the option to start in Falmouth (catch the bus via St Austell and Truro) for a 19 mile walk back to the hostel, or at Portloe (6 miles). To the east, Par is a good starting point (17.5 miles to the hostel), or Charlestown (St Austell) is just 14 miles. The Fowey to Par section (10 miles) is also manageable, using public transport at each end.
