Takeover Day at YHA

Friday, 22nd November saw YHA National Office taken over by 19 enthusiastic GCSE Business Studies students from Highfields, a local secondary school.

Takeover Day is a national event led by Maggie Atkinson, the Children’s Commissioner for England, in order to celebrate young people and give them the opportunity to try out a job which they might be interested in as well as have a hand in decision-making and planning in a professional organisation.

Five free things to do in Leeds

Leeds grew around industry, but now it has evolved into one of the most modern and diverse cities in the country. A centre for business, sport and shopping, there are many great reasons to choose Leeds as a city break destination - and YHA Leeds Carnegie Village is a great place to base your stay.

If you fancy seeing what Leeds has to offer, you can save more money for shopping by enjoying some of the great free experiences listed below:

Regional Councils

Regional Councils We have three Regional Councils in England and another council for Wales. The councils are made up of elected members who are kept informed of any news in YHA. These 3–4 hour council meetings are used to discuss what’s happening within the organisation and give members the chance to comment. Some councils also organise voluntary working parties, usually at small hostels, to help with a variety of tasks from gardening to carpentry. We are always delighted to see new faces at meetings.

Network Update - Berwick-Upon-Tweed

Whenever you stay with us, the fantastic YHA welcome comes as standard. We’ll never be an upmarket hotel chain, and we wouldn’t want to be. We’re proud of having a great network of hostels in spectacular locations. By the time you read this our new hostel in Berwick Upon Tweed will be up and running. Although YHA Berwick is a Grade II listed building, it has everything that you would expect from a modern hostel and is a great base to explore this beautiful area of Northumberland. Also in the North East, YHA Alnwick will soon be joining the network.

Red Tractor

YHA Chief Executive Caroline White attended a gathering at Clarence House in November, where she was able to personally assure HRH the Prince of Wales that all raw lamb used by YHA is not only Red Tractor accredited, but is also high quality Welsh Lamb and we will continue to work with Hyb Cig Cymru, the Welsh Lamb Club of producers during 2011.
