YHA’s continuing drive to deliver great standards for customers and particularly young people sees 22 Youth Hostels reopening over the coming months following investment and refurbishment.
The highlight has been renovation of the imposing National Trust-owned Gothic manor house, YHA Ilam, in the Peak District. Private and en-suite rooms, some with double beds, are now available, and the restaurant has been completely refreshed with new furniture and décor to match. A new 30-seat classroom and 100 capacity function room have also been created.
Expansion of YHA London St Pancras is also complete with a brand new café bar and more rooms in this popular location close to St Pancras International.
At the other end of the scale, improvements have been made to one of YHA’s great little hostels, at Honister Hause in the Lake District. At the top of Honister pass and offering easy access to the famous high peaks of Central Lakeland - Scafell, Great Gable, Pillar, Red Pike and Dale Head, as well as many other classic walking routes, you’ll find a refitted lounge with a simple bar and a wood burning stove to offer a great atmosphere in this mountain hostel.
Further down the road but still in the Lake District the Youth Hostel at Butharlyp Howe now has brand new beds and refitted showers, and over in Yorkshire, at Haworth new facilities have also been created. And Youth Hostels at Oxford, Newcastle, Idwal in Snowdonia and Lizard in Cornwall also benefitted from work this winter.
During April and May, Youth Hostels at Bristol, Penzance in Cornwall, Conwy in North Wales, Langdon Beck in Teeside, Windermere in Cumbria, Beer in Devon, Ironbridge – Coalport in Shropshire, Coverack in Cornwall and Port Eynon on the Gower Peninsular, Wales, will also reopen following investment projects.
