YHA Chester Redecoration Project

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with interior redecoration at YHA Chester during the first two weeks in October.  If you are handy with a paintbrush your help would be much appreciated!  Overnight accommodation and some meals may be available.  If you would  like some further details please contact the Volunteering Team on  01629 592562 or email volunteers@yha.org.uk.

Volunteer Student Placements 2008

This autumn we have various opportunities for volunteer student placements in a number of YHA locations. Placements can be from as little as two weeks to two months and gives you the opportunity to find out how YHA works and runs on a daily basis as well as gaining valuable experience within the network. They are available to both students living in the UK or abroad.

Voluntary Wardening - Recruitment finished for 2009

Voluntary Wardening offers opportunities for YHA members to run a Youth Hostel for a week.  The small self-catering hostels open to Voluntary Wardens are in some of the most idyllic locations in the network.

To apply you'll need experience of staying in these small hostels and be willing to attend a weekend training course which covers the hostel routine, paperwork, customer service and health and safety.  All Voluntary Wardens must also complete an Enhanced CRB Disclosure.

YHA Wilderhope Manor - Garden Volunteer

YHA Wilderhope Manor welcomes volunteers to help maintain the lawns, flower beds and grounds for this Elizabethan Manor house, owned by the National Trust. 

 This impressive building sits on Wenlock Edge in the heart of the Welsh Marches.

When: This is an ongoing volunteering position, all levels of help welcomed

YHA Wilderhope Manor - Volunteer Tour Guide

Location: YHA Wilderhope Manor

Description: This a great oportunity to gain full training and experience to give guided talks and tours for YHA around this National Trust owned Property.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help on Wednesday and Sunday Afternoons, no experience necessary.

YHA Alfriston - Customer Information Volunteer

Do you have in-depth knowledge of the Alfriston area?   Do you understand that a good day out means different things to different people?   Are you wanting a face-to-face volunteering experience that will challenge what you think you already know?

YHA Alfriston is looking for a Customer Information Volunteer to help guests plan their days out, find various amenities and encourage them to use public transport whilst staying at the Hostel.

You will need to be friendly but not intrusive, efficient but not brusque, and have patience for those whose first language is not English, but most of all, be enthusiastic about where you live!

YHA Telscombe - Volunteer Gardener

YHA Telscombe is seeking an enthusiastic local person to spend 2 - 3 hours a fortnight keeping on-top of this small garden in East Sussex. The ideal candidate would be able to keep on-top of weeding, caring for flower beds, sweeping paths, a little litter picking and keeping the area tidy.

YHA Telscombe does have volunteer wardens throughout the summer months, but a regular gardener would benefit the garden.

YHA Alfriston garden volunteer


Location: YHA Alfriston

Description: YHA Alfriston has a pleasant half-acre garden, mainly laid to lawn, with various beds, borders, pots and shrubs.
If you enjoy working in the garden we would appreciate a few hours of your time every week or two, particularly in the summer.

When: Ongoing volunteer opportunity, a few hours a week or fortnight.

YHA Salcombe Hostel - Maintenance Volunteer

Housed in a beautiful Edwardian property, YHA Salcombe sits above the Salcombe Estuary with a fantastic view over the National Trust gardens of Overbecks.

YHA Salcombe is seeking a Maintenance Volunteer to help with various areas within the Hostel grounds. This position would suit somebody that lived locally to the Hostel with experience in decorating and D.I.Y.

YHA Beverly Friary Volunteer Receptionist / Administrator

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be on the other side of the counter?

Well now's your chance!

We are looking for a unique person who enjoys meeting new people, is well organised, and has experience in I.T. to join our team of dedicated staff and volunteers at YHA Beverly Friary. We are looking for someone to help run reception, deal with advance bookings, and help with general paperwork for one evening a week. Knowledge of local attractions and the area would be desirable but not essential.

Do it 4 Real Volunteer Team Leaders

We have now finished recruiting Do it 4 real Team Leaders for 2008

Location:  YHA's Coalport, Edale, Hawkshead, Ilam Hall and Langdale

Description:  Volunteer Team Leaders will work with a group of around 8 young people during their stay at camp.  The role includes supporting, encouraging and motivating young people to take part and make the most of their stay.  All Volunteers will need prior experience of working with 10-16 year olds and roles will be offered subject to a satisfactory CRB check.  You can opt to volunteer for between one and six Camp weeks, depending on your availability.

When:  From 20th July-29th August, plus all volunteers must attend the induction training in Stockport from 10-15th July 2008.

Location: YHA Rowen

Description: Join a weekend working party at the Hostel. Jobs could involve gardening, painting, cleaning, tidying, etc. Limited spaces available.
