We are always delighted to see new faces at meetings. It's really helpful if the organisers know in advance if you plan to attend so please contact the people above if you would like to come to a meeting.
There are three Regional Councils in England and another council for Wales. They are composed of members elected at the Regional AGM held annually. If you are interested in knowing what is going on in YHA you can get the answer by attending one of these meetings or, at least an assurance that someone will try and get the answer for you.
The meetings receive updates on what is happening in YHA and have the opportunity to discuss these and make suggestions if appropriate. Some organise voluntary work parties, usually at small Youth Hostels, which may include painting, gardening etc. and sometimes there is work of a more specialist nature, such as carpentry.
The meetings are currently looking at ways of making the meetings of more value to YHA and this is likely to result in a more varied timetable of matters to discuss, work to be done etc. For instance, members of Central Region are opening YHA Clun in May 2010 as part of the regional Water Mill Opening weekend. Over 100 mill enthusiasts are expected, as well as people from Clun itself, wishing to have a look around the old machinery and see for themselves how one of YHA's oldest hostels has been refurbished for today's guests. Volunteers will be on hand to guide them around and answer questions on both YHA, the hostel and the machinery.
Meetings are held at different Youth Hostels and you are usually welcome to attend if you arrange it first. Contact details are above. Meetings usually last for 3-4 hours depending on the agenda. Regional AGMs are usually shorter.
