A popular Somerset Youth Hostel is hoping to entice record numbers of holiday- makers through its doors this summer after undergoing more than £150,000 worth of refurbishments.
The work at YHA Cheddar has just been completed, increasing the number of beds available from 45 to 59 and updating the interior of the building throughout.
Its new building configuration has added three new, private family rooms, including one that is fully-adapted for wheelchair users.
YHA Marketing and Corporate Affairs Director Alan Hopley said: "This work is part of YHA's ongoing commitment to providing great hostels in great locations .
and YHA Cheddar certainly now fits the bill on both counts.
"It's a very striking large Victorian house that sits in the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers easy access to a good range of attractions, including Cheddar's famous gorge and caves.
"With more rooms on offer for 2008 we're looking forward to a bumper summer - helping more people to enjoy a visit to this attractive part of the world than ever before."
Alan added that the provision of additional facilities for travellers with disabilities was further proof of YHA's charitable objective - to provide affordable accommodation for all.
As well as the additional bedrooms, a new self-catering kitchen has been created, and the decor and floor coverings have been upgraded and updated in some parts of the builidng.
Similar modernisation schemes have been carried out at 10 other YHA properties over the winter at a cost of more than £2million.
These will pave the way for £13.5million worth of additional spending on a further 37 projects next winter.
