YHA (the Youth Hostels Association) has appointed a new Chief Executive, Caroline White.  The appointment was announced with great pleasure by the charity’s chairman, Chris Darmon.

“I am honoured and privileged to be appointed to this great organisation,” said Caroline.

“For more than seventy years YHA has been making a difference to so many peoples’ lives and I will be taking up the baton to ensure even more people benefit in future years.”

Caroline has been interim CEO with YHA since April.  Previously with the Alzheimer’s Society, she has a wealth of experience in the voluntary, charitable and private business sectors, including housing and social care.

“Caroline has already made her mark on YHA and has moved us forward in her first six months,” said Chris Darmon.

“YHA has a new vision now, to reach out and engage with all young people.

“A new chapter of YHA is beginning. I enjoy working with Caroline and I know we will keep YHA centre stage in our discussions with government and other partners.”

“More than half a million young people already benefit from YHA, taking part in activities, making new friends, gaining confidence and broadening their horizons,” said Caroline.

“I want to see YHA reach many more young people. YHA is a tremendous organisation, enjoying huge support from many people, from all walks of life, and I am determined to harness that enthusiasm for the benefit of all."

Caroline’s appointment marks the end of a process begun 12 months ago when the former CEO, Roger Clarke, retired from YHA.
