YHA is gunning to capture a share of the capital’s fast-expanding ‘flashpacker’ market when YHA London Earl’s Court is officially re-launched today.
The busy cosmopolitan Youth Hostel was severely damaged by fire in April last year but has now been completely repaired and upgraded.
Under the £1.7million modernisation scheme, extra features have been added that will appeal to the more affluent and mature travellers who now head for the city – known as ‘flashpackers’.
The new-look facility will be re-opened by TV travel presenter and writer, Simon Calder.
Manager Caroline Thompson said: “We knew we were never going to be able to offer the cheapest accommodation in Earl’s Court but we can offer the best value.
“The re-fit has been carried out to a very high standard and has resulted in superb public rooms plus a café bar on the ground floor serving the best available locally-sourced produce.
“As more of our guests were falling into the ‘flashpacker’ bracket – more discerning travellers, demanding a higher standard of facilities and more privacy - we’ve also increased the number of double and en suite rooms to cater for them.
“These now operate alongside our classic, great value traditional backpacker accommodation in shared rooms for which we are so renowned among international travellers – particularly from Australia and New Zealand. “
As well as adding more en suite facilities, double rooms, a new heating system, and the café, the property has been re-styled and redecorated throughout.
The new YHA London Earl’s Court can sleep up to 186 in two, three, four, six, seven and 10-bedded rooms.
It is open now and bookings are now being taken with backpacker accommodation priced from £17.20 per night and private double rooms from only £57.
