Alan has been YHA’s Treasurer since 2001. After obtaining a geography degree at Hull University he went on to become a Chartered Public Finance Accountant. He currently works for Surrey County Council as the Financial
Management and Reporting Team Manager in their shared Services Centre. His first experience of YHA was at the small YHA Hindhead, and from then on he has stayed at several hundred other YHA locations mainly in the British Isles but increasingly worldwide.
A number of weeks voluntarily running YHA Hindhead led Alan to become involved within the governance of YHA. For the last 20 years he has contributed to a wide variety of national and international committee and groups on behalf of the organisation, building a substantial knowledge of YHA’s operations and finance departments, history and practices.
Alan is married with two teenage children. His interests beyond YHA are walking, cycling and the socio-economic history of Cornwall.
