Chairman's Appeal

YHA Chairman Chris Darmon writes:

YHA Jordans

There really are no words to describe Jordans to anyone who has not seen it. If you are amongst the fortunate who have visited this lovely little hostel, you will know why it is so special. If you are not, then I urge you to try and visit and see why it is so important to carry out repairs and improvements here.

More beds are necessary in this self-catering location. Jordans is popular with individuals and families and we need to be able to offer appropriate accommodation to cater to all their requirements.

The feeling of being away from it all and at peace is part of the charm of this location, it's hard to believe that you are only 15 miles away from Heathrow airport and 12 miles from Windsor. The weather and many years of use have taken their toll on this tranquil getaway which is in need of your support.

YHA Coverack

Dramatic scenery is guaranteed in this pretty Cornish fishing village. An old school house, YHA Coverack is situated near the South West Coast Path. Sit and eat your breakfast looking out at superb sea views and breathe in the fresh air.

The stairs and balcony were salvaged from the US liner, SS Mohegan, which floundered on the Manacle Rocks on October 14th 1898, and now add a sense of grandeur to the entrance hall. The rest of the building, however, needs quite a bit of work to provide the accommodation required.

This small hostel works hard for its living and now is at the stage where changes are required. We need to add some more facilities, and upgrade the ones we have, to enable YHA Coverack to welcome many more visitors in the future.

YHA Kettlewell

What a cracking location – right in the heart of Upper Wharfedale, surrounded by some of the most breath-taking countryside in Britain. Being from Yorkshire, I am really proud that YHA is able to offer accommodation here. Only 4 miles from Buckden Pike, Kettlewell provides straight- forward access to some of the best walking routes in the area. Our hostel also houses the Post Office making it a really important part of the community.

The hostel itself is a bit tired now and in need of new beds, a new boiler and some urgent repairs to the roof. The self-catering kitchen needs some new equipment. The carpets are also in need of replacement along with more power points and bunk lights in the bedrooms. Last year 4,175 overnights were taken at Kettlewell, that's more than 100 people per bed per year – and it's a long time since they were new - no wonder they need replacing!
