YHA is seeking your help for a very special project to renovate the stunning YHA Ilam in the Peak District.
This Victorian Gothic mansion is one of the most outstanding buildings that YHA has the good fortune to occupy, generously given for ‘the perpetual use of international youth’.
It welcomes an average of 2,000 guests each month, with the volume of visitors over the years leaving the building in need of repair.
Key changes are needed to the facilities provided at Ilam whilst also sympathetically conserving the unique Grade II listed building to make it accessible to all.
Work will include reducing the size of the bigger dormitories to create smaller rooms, improved lighting and decoration in the main areas and putting in more showers and toilets.
An energy-efficient heating system and plumbing will be installed to make the building more cost-effective and external work will include pointing and essential repairs to the chimneys.
